I always get asked what my style is.
I'm an interior designer, so I should have a style, right? I have always loved modern and contemporary interiors, as do most designers I know. Straight lines and natural materials can be both simple and rich at the same time, which is perhaps what draws me to them. So I guess my style is Modern.
However , I feel I should mention that I also love the beautiful detailing of a classic ceiling medallion, or the warmth of a knotted piece of rustic white oak, or mixing bright patterns together to create an eclectic feel. With that in mind, I would say my style is...varied.
Other questions I get asked are : Can you pair a super modern light fixture with a classic ceiling medallion? Can you do a rustic white oak mantle over a modern glass fireplace? Can you throw several colourful pillows on a basic white sofa? And the answers are: Yes, yes and yes.
There are many ways to successfully juxtapose materials and elements from various design styles to create beautiful spaces, so go ahead and mix and match elements. It's ok, I do it all the time.
