Imagine a perfect, spa-like retreat in your very own home, the ensuite of your dreams. A glorious ensuite isn't something just for the rich and famous, but it does take some thoughtful planning and execution to take an ordinary space and make it extraordinary. Read below for a few tips on what to include and what to leave out in your ensuite renovation project.

Ditch the jetted tub and go for a Soaker - There are so many gorgeous tubs on the market it can be hard to choose the one for you. Depending on your space, you may be looking for a freestanding tub or built-in tub and there are many shapes, sizes and even colours in both styles. Whatever the type of of tub you need, you will find there is more selection if you ditch the jets and go for a soaker.

It's all about the Shower - This is one case where size does matter; no one likes standing in a coffin-sized shower so make lots of room for yours. If you don't have a huge space, consider removing walls and using as much glass as you can to create the feeling of openness. Adding accessories like built-in shelves, a bench or lighting will add to the wow-factor.

Speaking of Lighting - Gone are the days of the basic bath-bar vanity lights; these days,
anything goes in your ensuite, and I mean anything. Pendants, chandeliers, potlights, flush-mounts, you name it! Consider picking one or two statement pieces for your project to elevate the design. Pendants over the vanity or a chandelier over the tub will certainly make your project stand out.

Be a Tile connoisseur - Tile is one of the materials that can make or break your bathroom and you do get what you pay for. Don't cut costs on your tile, especially the installation; a good tile installer is worth the $$. Try to pick a floor tile , a wall tile and accent tile that coordinate, but aren't too matchy-matchy.

Don't forget the Faucets - When picking your faucets, be sure select the products with the features you like. Shower and tub faucets need to be planned for before the tile is set, so find the ones you want first before starting your bathroom. With so many styles available, consider mounting your lavatory facets on the wall or doing an interesting handle design.

Ensuite bathrooms have changed a lot in the last few years and can be one of the trickiest rooms in the house to plan for. If you're feeling overwhelmed with all the choices, a Design Professional is always a great resource for ideas, product recommendations and expertise.
Happy designing!
